ROUND 9: TWO GM NORMS FROM YOUNG IMS AND TWO SURPRISING GAMES
img_3168.jpgbaris2.jpg

In the ninth round two Turkish IMs achieved their first GM norms. IM Yilmaz drew against GM Tukhaev while IM Esen beat GM Komarov. In the game WIM Tsatsalashvili - IM Can, IM Can has blundered his queen away and lost the game.

In a similar case, FM Firat drew his game against GM Radulski although he was in a winning position. Tournament ends with the last round game which will be played on 15:30.

Also you can kibitz all games on the playchess and on the internet chess club(icc) server.

ROUND 8: GM RADULSKI AND WIM TSATSALASHVILI STOP THE YOUNG IMS

In the ciritical game of the tournament GM Radulski Julian took down IM Emre Can who had a great chance to take GM norm and WIM Tsatsalashvili Keti stopped IM Mustafa Yılmaz by drawing the game, preventing the young IM from achieving GM norm.

The other games of the tournament ended in draws. The last games of the tournament will be played on friday.

ROUND 7: SHORT COMMENTARIES BY FM ÇITAK

In IM Can – GM Radulski game tactical phase started early as it was a bloody King’s Gambit. Although Black seemed to do well after 10. Qh6 11. Nc7 Nce5!? IM Can managed to keep his cool and after 14. Qe2 GM Radulski had to solve a problem: What to do with lonely f4 pawn? 17. … Bc5 was falling short due to 18. Ng5 therefore he had to play rest of the game in an inferior position with a pawn down. IM Can quickly converted his extra pawn into a full point.

FM Burak – GM Komorov was the tensest battle of the round probably. A classical Closed French structure arose out of the opening with both sides going for their plans. The game seemed to steer anywhere but a draw but players had little time left on the clock, hardly calculating anything agreed to draw in a very complicated position open to every result.

IM Esen was the hero of the day with a spectacular win. Coming in a commanding position out of the opening he launched a king side attack and rapidly forced GM Del Rio to resign with even material on board. After the game Baris told me that the position was already studied by him together with GM Atalik. Great preparation and a nice start to the day for IM Esen who needs to score few more points to achieve the Norm.

IM Erdogdu – GM Tukhaev encounter saw a typical Najdorf Sicilian with again both sides going for the kill. IM Erdogdu quickly centralized his pieces where as GM Tukhaev tried to open the way to the white king. This attempt by GM Tukhaev was neutralized by 19. Na2 and the game petered into a draw after few exchanges.

Not much to comment of IM Yılmaz – WIM Tsatsalashivili game as IM Yılmaz won a clear pawn on move 10. It was a blackout for Georgian WIM and though she tried to resist game was virtually over at move 40. IM Yılmaz is the closest to achieve the norm right now. I wish success to all our participants!
